About Me

I believe good therapy is primarily about experiencing a safe and trusting relationship where you are able to access your thoughts, feelings and emotions in an environment which is supportive and non-judgmental.  I will hold you in a space that is calm, honest and authentic, where we can explore difficulties and unease, and discover opportunities for change.  Together we can travel at a pace that feels right to you.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and psychotherapist.  I am also a clinical supervisor, with responsibility for supporting other counsellors.

I work in a non-directive, person-centred way, which means that I believe you have an innate capacity for your own growth, given the right conditions.  I believe that when an individual is properly heard and seen, and their emotions are felt empathically, healing can begin.  I also recognise that in situations of high anxiety, overwhelm or disconnection, it might also be necessary to work on strategies to help with coping, regulation and emotional connection, in order for other therapeutic work to be meaningful.

I have University degrees in Psychology and Psychotherapy, with extensive additional training in a range of specialist areas. I am an accredited member of the BACP.

My primary specialism is in working with people who have experienced trauma, including rape and sexual abuse in childhood and/or adulthood.

However, regardless of the presenting issues, I encounter my clients as human beings, who bring a multitude of experiences, including stress and anxiety,  concerns about identity and relationships, depression, loss, addiction, various mental health diagnoses and issues around anger, self-worth and self-esteem.  My service is inclusive and accessible and I welcome people bringing their whole selves to therapy.

I feel the pain (and often the shame) of clients who are self-harming and/or experiencing suicidal thoughts with understanding and without judgement, and I offer a safe space to experience, share and explore uncomfortable emotions.

I have had my own ups and downs in life, and I know how hard it can be to seek help. I feel truly privileged to be able to make a difference to people’s lives in my work.
